A renowned museum puts runners on display
British Artist Martin Creed's latest exhibit is off and running. "Work No. 850" features sprinters
dashing through an 86 meter gallery in London's Tate Britain Museum for 8 hours a day, through November. "If movement is a sign of life and stillness is death, running is an example of life most fully lived." says Creed, himself a runner. "It's beautiful." Prospective participants had to preform time trials to make sure they were up to the task. Two teams of four runners cover a four hour shift. For a half hour, the four runners take off every 30 seconds; then they rest while the other team hustles. Creed pays the runners more just more than 18 dollars an hour, and has a physical therapist on hand to treat injuries. If any of the 150 runners can't fulfill their duties, Creed has 300 on a waiting list. In September, Creed hoped to add some Olympians to his rotation, .... "It's the perfect combination," says Creed. "Olympic athletes are basically living sculptures." COOL!!
