ART MOVEMENT

As published in Runners World by Susan Rinkunas...
ART MOVEMENT
A renowned museum puts runners on display
British Artist Martin Creed's latest exhibit is off and running. "Work No. 850" features sprinters
dashing through  an 86 meter gallery in London's Tate Britain Museum for 8 hours a day, through November. "If movement is a sign of life and stillness is death, running is an example of life most fully lived." says Creed, himself a runner. "It's beautiful." Prospective participants had to preform time trials to make sure they were up to the task. Two teams of four runners cover a four hour shift. For a half hour, the four runners take off every 30 seconds; then they rest while the other team hustles. Creed pays the runners more just more than 18 dollars an hour, and has a physical therapist on hand to treat injuries. If any of the 150 runners can't fulfill their duties, Creed has 300 on a waiting list. In September, Creed hoped to add some Olympians to his rotation, .... "It's the perfect combination," says Creed. "Olympic athletes are basically living sculptures."  COOL!!

Plato Experiment Clipping, Patterns, Masks, Objects & Effects

Percy Cerutty Experiment Live Effects & Appearance

Athletic icon Percy Cerutty’s life (1895—1975) is a fascinating story of an unusual and determined individual.

Cerutty was Australia’s most enigmatic, pioneering and controversial athletics coach. He is best remembered as the exhibitionist eccentric of the Portsea sandhills who controversially trained the likes of John Landy and Herb Elliott in the Golden Age of Australian athletics in the 1950s and ’60s.

But his interests and ambitions transcended mere sport. After a complete breakdown at the age of 43 (1938), Cerutty set about reconstructing himself through natural diet and violent exercise. On the way, he not only performed extraordinary feats of endurance but developed an entirely original theory of human movement (based on the movements of wild animals) and "Stotan" philosophy that placed him completely outside of the square of conventional running theory – indeed outside all convention. He was an outrageous personality, but Cerutty’s exhibitionist ways in public were just one manifestation of an extraordinarily complex and passionate man.

His legendary camp in the sandhills of Portsea, on the tip of Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, was effectively Australia’s first institute of sport, grandly branded the International Athletics Centre. Thousands were drawn there from around the world to hear his captivating lectures, eat their raw oats, lift heavy weights, and run.

Figure 2. The rear foot of a raccoon shows the “heel” and looks like a small human footprint. Both front and back feet have five toes. The front prints have shorter heel marks and are 2 to 3 inches long; the hind tracks are 3 to 4 inches long.
(From Pandell and Stall, Animal Tracks of the Pacific Northwest.)

I had no idea raccoons could climb up onto the roof so easily! WOW

Squirrel Invasion September 2008

So, the studio has 3 big skylights in the ceiling and a squirrel busted through the screen in the center skylight.
It broke and caved in - the noise and crash must have scared the creature because the animal was never seen inside but left these tracks behind. Looks like a fast scramble up and on the roof. Thank goodness it didn't come inside!!
Only thing visible was a broken screen and these tracks - must be Squirrel - right?

A YEAR IN PICTURES - LIFE IS SHORT!!

I managed to post a photo every day (mostly) as an exercise for a whole year and as you may have noticed I have been celebrating by posting videos for the last week. I am not sure what the next year will bring. I like a challenge and I like to try new things but I haven't figured out how to "theme" the next year yet. It has been cathartic for me personally and fun to be expressive visually while creativity flowed at times and ebbed occasionally too.
I see the next year as a sort of living sketch book with more Adobe CS3 software inspired design "stuff", more Art and less rules about what to post. For now I am posting a couple of slide shows with what got posted over the last year. I'll try to figure out how to synchronize it to music too. Really I want to say thanks for dropping in and thanks for leaving comments over the last year. Artists who work in isolation need contact from the outside world occasionally and blogging has really helped!!

An observation, one of the first images I posted was the STOP BEING AFRAID stop sign I shot over on rt. 146..... and the last post I made was ANGST the animated short by Emeil Penders. Interesting how both are about fear. I am glad the posting for the year ended on the ANGST short film since the little guy overcomes his fears inspired by the love he has for his dog. Cool
Now for something a little bit new.......

peace
